The Department of Health has finally agreed to look at a Treatment Abroad funding application for Carlow’s Shauntelle Tynan.
Hundreds of thousands of euro had to be fundraised during 2016 for the young Carlow woman to receive treatment in Texas for a rare form of cancer.
The Government’s Treatment Abroad Scheme only covers European countries so Shauntelle’s family weren’t able to get any state help with the costs.
She returned home in October of last year but will have to travel back every six months or so.
Shauntelle’s mother, Leona says that after years of trying, the Department have now agreed to look at her case.
