A 'disappointed' John Swan forced to cut 17 jobs as he fails to secure permission to continue trading

The owner of Swans Wholesale in Carlow has expressed his disappointment at having to close part of his business in the town.

17 jobs were lost on Friday when the retail side of the store on the Hacketstown Road closed – just 5 jobs are being retained in the Wholesale division.

Owner John Swan has told KCLR news today that he has made repeated efforts and spent 80 thousand euro over the past few years to obtain planning permission for the retail side of the business but each time objections have seen it refused.

He says he’s disappointed as a 3rd generation retailer in Carlow town to have to close but says he can do no more at this stage.
