Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue appointed as new Agriculture Minister

He's the third person to hold the position since the government was formed at the end of June

Charlie McConalogue has been named as the new Agriculture Minister.

The Donegal TD, who was previously Fianna Fáil’s Agriculture Spokesperson, succeeds Dara Calleary, who resigned over last month’s Oireachtas golf society dinner controversy.

He’s the third person to hold the position since the government was formed at the end of June.

Wexford TD James Browne will succeed Deputy McConalogue as Minister of State at the Department of Justice.

Taoiseach Michéal Martin nominated the new Agriculture Minister in the Dáil this afternoon:

“It is my intention to assign to Deputy McConalogue the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. His knowledge of this area is both broad and deep. Proud son of both Donegal and the Inishowen peninsula, he brings with him a perspective rooted in communities which have always been defined by their spirit and determination to shape a more prosperous future.”
