Drivers are not getting the message about getting behind a wheel while under the influence of drink or drugs.
That’s the warning from the Divisional Roads Policing Inspector after the latest local safety campaign saw 18 people arrested on suspicion of driving with an intoxicant in their system.
13 of the detections were made before Christmas week with three so far this month. Most of these were in Kilkenny city alone.
190 people died on Irish roads last year, one of the worst on record, with eight in the Carlow and Kilkenny area.
