George Fonsie Mealy of Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers is pictured with an original fine ink portrait sketch by John B. Yeats, the first ever published portrait of William Butler Yeats issued in ‘Mosada' the poet's first publication, a monogrammed briefcase belonging to W.B Yeats which he subsequently gifted to his son Michael, a pair of WB’s optical glasses or pence-nez along with his inkwell. The Kilkenny based auction house have assembled a collection of remarkable personal artefacts from the Yeats family which are of National and International importance, for what will be the last significant tranche of items to ever go to auction. Items including paintings, letters and personal memorabilia will be auctioned on November 14th in Fonsie Mealy’s Chatsworth Salerooms, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. www.fonsiemealy.ie

A bidder paid 10 thousand euro at a Kilkenny auction house yesterday for a pair of WB Yeats glasses.
Fonsie Mealy auctioneers had a collection go under the hammer yesterday at their salesroom in Castlecomer.
Bids were taken for over 200 lots of items including paintings, letters and personal memorabilia
One of only two known signed and compiled sketchbooks to exist from W.B Yeats time in Art College in Dublin fetched €17,000.
A monogrammed briefcase belonging to Yeats, which he subsequently gifted to his son Michael sold for €3,400.
