The Department of Further and Higher Education is not in a position to furnish a consultants’ report commissioned by SETU which has informed the decision to close Carlow College Saint Patrick’s in 2028.
That’s what Minister James Lawless’s private secretary told Carlow Municipal District in a letter dated August the 24th.
The letter was included in the documentation for the District’s September meeting, which stated that the sharing of the full report rests with SETU given that they directly commissioned the report.
While acknowledging the sadness of the ongoing situation and the frustration felt by staff, Councillor Andrea Dalton hopes that the college will, in some guise, remain a seat of learning in the heart of Carlow beyond 2028.
