Eircode says ‘No address has changed’ because of new post code system

Eircode has moved to reassure people in North Kilkenny that their addresses have not been changed.

Its after concerns were raised when homes in Urlingford, Johnstown and other border areas received their new post codes this week.

The county line in their address was Kilkenny but on the Eircode documentation was Tipperary.

In a statement to KCLR Eircode said

No address has changed – or will change – because of the introduction of Eircode. You should use the address (including the county) that you have always used, and simply add the Eircode at the end.

The reason some addresses are showing with the ‘wrong’ county is that Eircodes are based on the existing An Post sorting system. In a small number of instances, the An Post sorting office is in a different county to the address. This has been the case for years and nothing has changed
