The fact that we have the EU presidency is a time to wave the flag and show we’re actually very much part and parcel of everything that Europe has done.
Thats the view of Carlow County Museam Curator Dermot Mulligan.
He was reacting to news that Carlow has been twinned with Luxemburg for the upcoming EU Presidencey while Kilkenny was paired with Romania.
The link between County Carlow and Luxembourg goes all the way back to the 7th century thanks to their patron Saint Villabord who lived for 12 years in the county.
Mr Mulligan told KCLR its a time to showcase what we have to offer: “any chance that you get to promote yourself abroad should be taken with both hands and obviously put as much effort and enthusiasm into it.”
“With the likes of Luxembourg, and again with a lot of our European neighbours, we do have in Ireland, while we’re an island on the western parts of the European Union, we do have great connections to the continent.”
