Extension on the cards for local secondary school as 5 acres purchased

A North Kilkenny secondary school could be in line for an extension with the announcement that more land has been bought.

Coláiste Mhuire in Johnstown have purchased five acres adjoining the school which will now be used to extend the school and the car park, and allow for permanent special units to replace the prefabs.

A new exit from the school is also planned for extra road safety.

A large amount of the funding came from the Department of Education but the school will have to make up the difference.

Members of the board have told KCLR News this is the best news for the local school in the last 10 years – which now has around 500 students.
