FAI leads tributes to Carlow’s John Coughlan

small_Johnny.coughlan2The FAI has been leading tributes to Carlow’s John Coughlan who died at the weekend following an illness.

The local man was a member of the FAI Council and Honorary secretary of the Carlow & District Football league.

He was also a former President of the Leinster Football Association – the first to come from outside of Dublin.

John was also a serving member of the FAI International comittee and was on the associations Rules Commision as well as being an active member of its disciplinary bodies.

FAI President Tony Fitzgerald said he will be ‘sadly missed’ describing him as ‘a natural leader who was very knowledgeable and extremely likeable’.

Chief Executive John Delaney said John was ‘a wonderful man’ who gave ‘great service to football and will be missed by his many friends in the sport’.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
