A 78-year-old man has died after a road accident near the Kilkenny Tipperary border.
The man was alone in the car when it left the road and struck a concrete pier between Gortnahoe and Ballysloe.
He was treated at the scene but died a short time later. His remains have been removed to University Hospital Waterford.
The road has been closed for forensic investigations, and local traffic diversions are in place.
