Fine Gael looks set to select its General Election contenders for Carlow and Kilkenny later.
Local party members are due to meet at a Carlow hotel this evening to vote on who they believe could best represent them.
KCLR News understands hopefuls include former TD Pat Deering, sitting councillors David Fitzgerald, Michael Doyle and Joe Lyons as well as two others who ran in the recent local elections Orla Kelly and Catherine Callaghan who lost out on a seat by a single vote.
There’s speculation the party will declare one if not two tonight to go forward to the public’s ballot box, whenever that may be.
It’s as a third of Fine Gael’s sitting deputies have declared they’re not running in the next General Election, including this constituency’s John Paul Phelan.
