Five people in Kilkenny have been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence so far this bank holiday weekend.
Four of the cases were alcohol related while one was for drugs.
Gardai have a large number of checkpoints in place over the weekend.
Inspector Paul Donohoe says it’s dissappointing with all the messaging that’s going out.
“A high enough figure, I suppose, unfortunately, after all our appeals asking people not to drink and drive.” said Paul.
“Unfortunately, so we’re still seeing that and we still have today to go before the end of the bank holiday weekend, I suppose on the fortunate side of it, we haven’t lost any lives on the roads this bank holiday weekend, which is great, so we’ve no serious traffic collisions and we’ve no one lost their life.” he added.
