As part of the production of the Leonard Cohen Tribute night on the Folk/Roots show here on KCLR, I took it on myself to make contact with Sylvie Simmons. An award winning journalist, she has been – rightly – praised for her biography “I’m Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen” which to many people is the definitive work. As as result of this she had a unique insight and access to the life and work of this legendary artist. She kindly agreed to chat and as she was in the middle of a veritable blizzard of interviews I was more than grateful; it made for a fascinating discussion.
She is also a renowned musician in her own right and has a self titled album of her own and one on the way. She sent me on her own take on the classic song “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye”.
