Mongrel State are a band with a wide palette of music to choose from, with their members coming from Ireland, Italy, Spain and Argentina. It seems simplistic to say that their name is appropriate but it is. Their individual musical journeys are rich and varied and all have a big vision of what their shared music should be.
The lineup is Italian Claudio Mercante on guitar & vocals, Irishman Darren Flynn on bass/vocals, Argentinian Sebastian Jazzi on drums & vocals and Spaniard Guillermo Gonzalez Rodriguez on keyboards/guitar/percussion/vocals. All have served their respective time in various bands and busking on the streets so their experiences are rich and varied.
They play with a passion and an openness that is contagious. They have a deep respect for where their influences came from but they let the collective passion take over to produce something fresh and unique to the Irish music scene. Their album “Mestiso” rocks and seduces and you will not stay still once you hear it.
Their live shows are bringing new fans at every turn and they’ll be coming to Kilkenny for the Roots festival. Be prepared to be shaken and stirred…
