Former IFA President could run for a Dail seat
Theres speculation now that former IFA President John Bryan could run for a Dail seat for Fine Gael.
He ruled himself out of the running for Europe at the weekend and its understood that local Deputy John Paul Phelan is being considered now for the party’s ticket for Ireland South.
He ran in 2009 but despite securing 62 thousand votes didn’t get elected.
Todays Irish Times says Fine Gael is leaving the door open for John Bryan to contest the bye-election should John Paul Phelan win a seat in Europe this time.
The selection for Ireland South is due to happen this Sunday in Clonmel.
Sitting MEP Sean Kelly and Cork Senator Deirdre Clune are both expected to be on the ticket.
