Almost €1.7 million is coming the way of Carlow and Kilkenny under the Town and Village Renewal scheme.
Callan, Glenmore, Johnstown Tullow and Rathoe are the areas set to benefit locally.
A number of the Kilkenny projects will see an old Carrigeway reinstatement and new public realm in Johnstown.
The community cafe in Glenmore will benefit to the tune of €500,0000 which Leas Cheann Comhairle John McGuinness says will galvanise the community : “That particular project would revitalise Glenmore and create a centre for the community and would be a hub for all of the other activities that stemmed from that.”
Meanwhile 2 projects in Carlow will see pre work for an outdoor hub in Rathoe and €500,000 for thew development of a new Town Park in Tullow.
Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has welcomed the announcement: “It’s all about keeping rural towns, rural villages alive, you know, keeping the footfall and that’s really important now, you know, whether it’s to work, to schools, to businesses, it’s really important. Yeah, it’s a good news story.”
The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, has today announced the aboce is part of funding of €26 million for 116 projects in rural communities across the country.
