Future location of Kilkenny city & county library to be decided today

A decision should be made later today regarding the future of the Kilkenny City & County Library.

Last weeks council meeting was postponed due to Storm Ophelia but today members will discuss the proposed refurbishment and extension of the existing Carnegie library on Johns Quay.

There had been plans to move the library to the old Meubles site in John Street but the idea now is to create a cultural quarter with the Library and Art Gallery side by side.

Cathaoirleach David Fitzgerald supports that proposal. He says a new library is long overdue in Kilkenny City and wants the project to move forward.
