Despite the crowds attending festivities in Carlow and Kilkenny, so far there have been no major incidents reported locally.
Motorists in particular appear to have heeded advice – with a garda road safety campaign taking place, it seems just one driver tested positive for drugs with one other for drink.
Divisional Roads Policing Inspector Paul Donohoe has a warning however for those who were out socialising last night to be mindful they may have intoxicants still in their system, telling KCLR News; “We will be doing checkpoints across the Division on Wednesday morning so if you were out celebrating St Patrick’s Day make sure and leave yourself sufficient time to make sure alcohol is out of your system on Wednesday morning. if you’re a person who decides to take drugs well that won’t be out of your system on Wednesday full stop so if you’re stopped or your involved in any kind of a road traffic offence and you’re tested by the Gardaí, you could be tested for drug-driving”.
