Gardaí issue fresh appeal for information on murder of Kilkenny woman 33 years ago

More than 500 lines of inquiry have been opened by Gardaí investigating the murder of a Kilkenny woman 33 years ago.

The body of Marie Tierney was found on the Bleach Road on the 21st of December, exactly two months after she was reported missing.

10.30 on the night of October the 21st 1984, 34-year-old Marie Tierney was last seen as she drove away from her home in Clintstown, Jenkinstown in the family’s Renault 18 Estate.

The next day her husband reported her missing.

Investigating Gardaí then found her car at Newpark Fenn later that day.

Searches were organised by both Gardaí and her family and friends, but nothing came of them.

Exactly two months later, on the 21st of December, a walker discovered her body in a ditch on the Bleach Road in Kilkenny.

A murder investigation was then launched.

Since then more than 500 lines of enquiry have been followed and over 200 witness statements have been taken but no arrests have ever been made.

A number of people had previously come forward who had seen Marie’s car parked at Newpark Fenn on the 21st of October and Gardaí are appealing for those people to once again make contact.

If anyone has any information on what happened to Marie you’re being asked to contact your local Garda station or the Garda confidential line.
