Gardaí out in force across Carlow and Kilkenny as part of latest Slow Down Day operation

With more traffic due on the roads today Gardaí are calling on motorists to watch their speed.

All schools should now be back increasing the number of vehicles on all routes.

An Garda Siochana got its latest National Slow Down Day underway in the last hour (7am) – last year there were 173 such incidents in which 184 people lost their lives compared to 154 deaths in 149 collisions in 2022 – a 19% increase on 2022.

This year already eight people have died in Carlow and Kilkenny with two more local men dying in other counties.
