On the Glanbia Farm Show this week we heard first from the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed; he spoke to Matt O’ Keeffe about the need for farmers to have their Nutrient Managements Plans in to the Department as soon as possible. He also outlined the current situation with Glyphosate use as well as signalling that there are dangers for Irish farmers if the current proposed trade deals with MERCOSUR countries and New Zealand go ahead.
Elsewhere there was an update from IFA Kilkenny chairman John Bambrick on the proposed requirement for an NCT on ‘fast tractors’.
The Ceres conference is to be held on November 10th on the theme of “The Future of Agriculture up to 2030” was outlined by Karen Brosnan.
The winner of the inaugural Grassland Farmer of the Year, Eddie O’ Donnell from Tipperary, was interviewed on along with Padraig Walshe, the chairman of the Grass 10 programme.
We had our usual Farm Diary, sponsored by Tullow Mart and George Candler brought us up to date on this week’s Mart prices from Kilkenny Mart.
