Glanbia Farm Show – 22/12/2016

Tonight’s show was more of an “open house” with a free flowing format. First we spoke to a Kilkenny man, Paddy Raftice, who’s working and farming in New Zealand, hearing how the season is celebrated on the far side of the world. Joining us then were Catriona Fitzpatrick of Silver Springs Vegetables, John’s Green, Kilkenny; John Joe Cullen, Pork Butcher, John Street, Kilkenny; Dónal Croghan, Chairman of Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee and Pat Comerford of Flower Power, Dublin Road, Kilkenny.
The conversation ranged from the wealth of local vegetable produce, the man poignant memories and stories of the First World War and it’s impact on Kilkenny men and women, serving and supporting the war effort; we had timely time saving tips on Christmas Day food preparation and suggestions on cooking and preparation for vegetables; we hard about the history of the poinsettia plant and the legend and lore of the mistletoe. We even had recitations of poetry courtesy of show producer Martin Bridgeman. All in all and packed show to bring 2016 to an end.
We wish you and yours the compliments of the season and will be back with the regular Farm Show on January 5th, 2017.
