Glanbia Farm Show – 23/11/2017

First tonight we looked in to the history of food in Ireland with Professor Liam Downey of University College Dublin and Maynooth, formerly director of Teagasc. He spoke to Matt about the diet of the ancient Irish and how it has developed through history. A series of papers on this topic will be launched in the College Of Physicians in early December.
John Moloney of Teagasc joined us to tell us about a Dairy Conference happening in Lyrath Hotel, on Tuesday, November 28th.
Farm safety is a constant concern and unfortunately the farming sector still remains as the most dangerous occupation in this country. We heard tonight from Peter Gohery, a survivor of a serious farm accident which resulted in the loss of a limb. Peter is director of Embrace Farm, an organisation set up to support farmers and their families and to create awareness around Farm Safety. They’re holding a conference for farm accident survivors on this Saturday, November 25th in Portlaoise.
(The full interview was not broadcast due to time constraints. It’s on the page below)
We had our weekly Farm Diary sponsored by Tullow Mart and Michael Lynch joined us for this week’s Mart Report from Kilkenny.
