With Brexit formally triggered in Brussels, we heard three contributions tonight from the recent Agricultural Sciences Association Conference on Brexit. We heard first from Joe Healy of the Irish Farmers Association, from Jim Power, a noted economic commentator and finally a very stark warning from John Moloney, former Managing Director of Glanbia PLC. Matt discussed these comments with Eoin Lowry, Business Editor of Irish Farmers Journal.
On a lighter note, we discussed greyhound matters with Brian Kennedy of the Kilkenny Greyhound Supprters Club who told us about the recent developments at the Kilkenny track and gave us details of an upcoming charity night in aid of Clara national school.
We then heard from two members of the Macra Na Feirme Mr. Personality committee. Liam Comerford and Lisa Walsh from Kilkenny Macra gave us the background and the details of the event.
We then heard of two international success stories when Matt spoke with Ailish and Sarah Gough of Mileevin Honey on a recent Bord Bia Trade trip and we then heard an excerpt from an interview with Liam Hyland of Green Isle Foods from the same trip. (Due to time pressures these interviews were edited. They appear in full below).
Due to circumstances outside of your control there wasn’t the usual Mart Report but a short report was broadcast on the lunchtime news on Friday, March 31st.
Here are the two interviews from tonight’s show in full:
