Our locality’s bracing itself for one of the highlights of the Irish National Hunt season.
Goffs Thyestes Day is set to roll out at Gowran Park with first race at 12:40pm and a complimentary shuttle bus leaving the Gaol Road in Kilkenny city two hours before that.
A highlight is the Grade 3 Goulding Theystes Handicap Chase at 3:30pm which comes with a €100,000 prize pot.
On the go since 1954, it’s previously been won by equine luminaires including Arkle, FlyingBolt and Aintree Grand National winners Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde.
There had been concerns the action might be halted due to rainfall but a track inspection last evening saw a decision taken to go ahead.
KCLR News has been hearing from those in the area ahead of the biggest day on the village’s annual sporting calendar – stay tuned to hear from those and also for updates as The KCLR Daily which will broadcast from trackside (10am to 1pm).
