A group of Kilkenny taxi drivers have been trained to talk to people about suicide.
Local taxi man Derek Devoy organised the training for drivers as part of his new Taxi Watch initiative set up earlier this month.
Derek started the group after he came across two incidents in one weekend on John’s Bridge where a person tried to take their own life.
Fifteen drivers completed the safeTALK course along with Mayor Andrew McGuinness yesterday.
The training will help drivers to identify people who are having suicidal thoughts, to listen to them and to help keep them safe by connecting them with the right help. Derek Devoy told KCLR it’s already been useful
