High percentage of farmers at risk of heart attack & stroke

80 per cent of farmers in Carlow and Kilkenny are at risk of having heart attacks and stroke.

That’s according to research carried out by IT Carlow which found that a staggering 82 per cent had a family history of heart disease, stroke or diabetes and half had high blood pressure and raised cholesterol.

Maureen Mulvihill, head of health promotion with the Irish heart foundation says  farming has become less physical in recent years which could be a factor.
