Phil Hogan has been formally ratified as the new EU Agriculture Commissioner.
MEPs in Strasbourg voted by 423 votes to 209 to approve the 28 nominated commissioners this morning.
He will now finish up in his role as TD for Carlow-Kilkenny at the end of the month and will take up his new position on November 1st in Brussels.
Commissioner Hogan says food security will be his immediate priority.
