Hopes high that Rathvilly womans husbands appeal to 18 year jail sentence will finally be heard today

The long awaited appeal to a jail sentence handed down to the husband of a Carlow woman is expected to be finally heard in Crete today.

Julie Markus husband Mark has been in prison nearly 4 years now after he was convicted of a string of charges – though he and his family claim he was here in Ireland when some of the alleged crimes happened.

Julie and her parents Bill and Phyl O’ Reilly from Rathvilly have travelled to Crete regularly in recent months awaiting this appeal.

Today is the fourth time its due to be heard in court and the family are hopeful it will go ahead as planned.
