The HSE is investigating a number of cases of death or serious harm in maternity units in the south east, which includes Kilkenny.
New figures released on Independen dot ie have revealed that 49 serious incidents have occurred in the country’s 19 maternity units since 2012.
The figures have also shown that most of the investigations are being carried out in the North East hospital group.
However, 6 cases are currently under review in maternity units in Mullingar, Wexford and Kilkenny.
Health minister, Leo Varadkar is to set up a patient advocacy service with a view to creating a national maternity strategy.
