Hundreds of runners and walkers are taking to Oak Park in County Carlow today for the third annual Outrun Hunger charity event.
The event features five and ten kilometre routes to raise vital funds for St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen.
Organisers say that every five euro raised goes directly toward providing a fresh meal for someone in need in the local community.
David Walsh is one of the organisers. He says St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen is a much needed service in Carlow…
“The work that the kitchen does, feeding up to 170 vulnerable people per day and if they didn’t get that warm meal, they’d have to make a choice between turning on the heating in the house or eating. In 2026, like, that’s incomprehensible that food poverty is still an issue.”
“As well as that, the kitchen, in addition to offering a very warm meal five days a week to these vulnerable people, it’s a social event. People go in there and they sit down, and this is the key, without judgment. Nobody asks their background, they share ideas, they talk to each other. Some people are there on addiction recovery.”
