The Chair of Keep Kilkenny Beautiful says the county’s ranking in the latest Irish Business Against Litter survey isn’t a reflection of the work being done locally.
Yesterday, we outlined how Carlow dropped two places to 35th out of 40 areas falling into the ‘moderately littered’ category of the An Taisce report while Kilkenny retained its Clean to European Norms status but it fell one spot to 17th.
Cllr Maria Dollard has told KCLR News; “I think it’s not that we’re dropping our standards, but it’s more than other cities and towns are upping their game, I don’t think a ranking of 17 out of 40 really reflects how litter free Kilkenny is and what a great job community groups and the council are doing to keep Kilkenny litter free and in fairness you can’t really begrudge other towns and cities their chance to shine”.
