Thousands of people have decended on Kilkenny this weekend as the St Patrick’s Day festivities are underway.
The St Patricks Festival and Kilkenny Tradfest are running side by side at venues and outdoors across the city until the parade itsself on Tuesday.
If you’re into trad music there’s over 100 free performances scheduled at bars and venues.
The Parade Plaza houses the festival market and carnival rides.
Marian Flannery the festival director outlines some of the events on today.
“There’s no excuses, there’s so much to do, we have a ceili actually at the River Court Hotel, one of the best ceili bands in the country, the Blackwater Ceili Band, coming down from County Tyrone, that’ll be a really fun afternoon.” said Marian.
“It’s a time of the year when you have many weathers, so I just guess everybody should come out prepared.” she added.
Meanwhile Inistioge kicked off the first of the county’s parades today.
Theirs got underway in the village at 12 o clock.
Also, Mountain View Market in Ballyhale is hosting its annual St. Patrick’s Day Doggie Parade today also at noon.
