It has emerged this evening that the Post Office in Inistioge will be retained.
There were fears locally that the service would be shut after the current postmaster and postmistress announced that they are retiring.
However, local TD, Bobby Aylward confirmed to KCLR news this evening that An Post are keeping the service going saying that “it’s great for the community”.
Deadline for submissions around the future of the post office were to be submitted by 31 July.
At that stage An Post had said they would consider any views and then make a decision taking account of Network coverage needs, the level of business in Inistioge, travel distances to other services and the capacity of neighbouring offices to handle additional business if the post office was to close.
