The Tánaiste maintains that troops based in Lebanon will not be withdrawn amid escalating tensions in the region.
Members of the Defence Forces working as part of a UNIFIL mission were uninjured after a major exchange of rocket fire between Israel and Hezbollah last month.
A number of soldiers from Carlow and Kilkenny are among those to at times spend six month stints working in the area.
Defence Minister Micheál Martin says the safety of our troops is his primary concern; “The peacekeepers will stay as long as they, we work with thousands of other peacekeepers so no-one’s going to do anything unilaterally, our job is to maintain the peace with others and UNIFIL is committed to doing that and our troops are committed to doing that, the force protection is the number one priority and protection of our troops is a number one priority”.
