The controversy surrounding the former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan and Carlow/Kilkenny Deputy John McGuinness is expected to be raised in the Dáil this afternoon.
The former Garda Commissioner is facing growing calls to confirm or deny allegations he tried to discredit the Garda whistle-blower Maurice McCabe in a meeting with the Fianna Fáil TD.
Last night, the current Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan denied any knowledge of a private meeting between her predecessor and the former chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
Clare Daly of Independents-4-Change says TD John McGuinness also has questions to answer as she says none of his reasons make sense to her.
However John McGuinness he’s being used as a “red-herring” – distracting from the real issues.
Hesays the former Commissioner told him Maurice McCabe wasn’t to be trusted but that that was no business of the O’Higgins Commission which was investigating claims made by McCabe.
Speaking to KCLR Live this morning, Deputy McGuinness says he wanted to see if there was anything to the Commissioner’s comments first.
