A judge has been criticised for claiming in court that cyclists have become a “nightmare” in Dublin.
At the Circuit Civil Court yesterday, Judge James O’Donohoe decided a cyclist was mainly responsible for an accident with a motorbike in 2020, which saw him suffer a brain injury.
A 50-thousand euro damages award was reduced by 80%.
Dublin Cycling Campaign’s Una Morrison says “I find it very upsetting and the wider cycling community finds it very upsetting, and if you said this about another marginalised, you know, minority group there would be absolute uproar, it shows a bias that really is quite worrying so I would very much appreciate it being withdrawn”.
