Minister Kathleen Lynch says the community approach to tackling mental illnesses is having a profound effect on those that use the services.
The junior minister at the Dept of Health is in Kilkenny today -she has been meeting this afternoon with the various community groups that came together on an action plan for suicide prevention in the county.
Earlier she visited the Day services centre in St Canices Hospital ‘Tuiscint’ which serves Carlow and Kilkenny
Minister Lynch says there is similar service in her own constituency and she believes it is working to the extent that numbers being admitted to acute units have fallen dramatically.
