KCLR Live: Highlight: Author Eunan O’Halpin on Kevin Barry

Kevin Barry's Grand-nephew recounts his story in his new book.

100 years ago, 18 year old Rathvilly man Kevin Barry was hanged in Mount Joy jail for his role in a bungled IRA operation in which three British soldiers were killed.

He’s celebrated as an icon of patriotic, idealistic death and his name is synonymous with youthful republican sacrifice.

A statue was due to be unveiled on the 100th anniversary of his death but was postponed due to Covid19 restrictions.
