Vaginismus is vaginal tightness resulting from the involuntary tightening of the pelvic floor muscles, causing discomfort, burning, pain, penetration problems, or even the complete inability to have intercourse.
Physical causes can include poor muscle recruitment, medical conditions, childbirth, age-related changes, pelvic trauma, abuse and medications. Non-physical causes can include fear, anxiety, stress, partner issues, past traumatic events, emotional abuse and can also have no causes.
