Kilkenny County Council has added new environmentally friendly vehicles to its winter road maintenance fleet ahead of the colder months.
The new equipment includes a snow plough with a brine unit capable of treating seven kilometres of road on one tank, along with a salt grit spreader.
The vehicles run on batteries and hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Councillor Seán Ó hArgáin says Kilkenny is leading the way in adopting more sustainable machinery.
