Kilkenny County Council has officially launched a new public awareness campaign, “Kilkenny Anti-Dumping Watch,” urging residents and visitors to take a stand against litter and fly-tipping to protect the county’s natural beauty.

The initiative highlights the significant impact that irresponsible waste disposal has on the local environment, specifically targeting the protection of Kilkenny’s streets, public parks, and river systems.

Council officials are emphasizing that “every small action counts,” noting that simple habits—such as using the nearest public bin or bringing rubbish home—play a massive role in keeping shared spaces clean and enjoyable for everyone.

The campaign comes as the local authority steps up its monitoring and enforcement efforts. Beyond environmental damage, illegal dumping puts a heavy financial burden on taxpayers and diverts essential council resources away from other community projects.

The Council is calling on the “eyes and ears” of the community to help identify offenders. If you witness illegal dumping or discover fly-tipped waste, you are encouraged to report it immediately through the following official channels:

By Phone: Call the dedicated enforcement line at 056 779 4470.

Online: Submit a report via the Kilkenny County Council Enforcement Portal.

Residents are reminded to only use authorised waste collection services and to make use of official civic amenity sites to ensure their waste is handled legally and safely.
