A local woman has warned parents to be on alert after describing how a man attempted to get her 10-year-old niece into a car in the city yesterday.

The young girl was making her way to a shop on College Road – just metres from her father’s home – when she says a car pulled up and a man shouted at her to get in.

Georgette told KCLR Live this morning that the Gardaí were contacted and are investigating the matter.

She described the incident:

“As she was going up to the shop she said that a man stopped in a car and shouted at her, ‘get in the car now.’ She shouted ‘no’ and she ran up to the shop to the staff in there and she was crying and shaking and she said, ‘Please call my Dad. Some man is after trying to get me into his car.’

“So they rang her dad and he was there in seconds. Ellie was so brave though. She gave such a great description of the man and the car.

“She described the car as being an old black BMW. He had a scar on his face, a black jumper, Dublin accent, blonde hair kind of to the front, and blue eyes.”
