Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng has announced his team for the Cats’ first competitive game of 2025, with Fionán Mackessy earning a place in the starting 15. Mackessy is set to line out in the half-back line as Kilkenny take on Clare in Ennis this Sunday.
The eagerly anticipated fixture will be broadcast live on KCLR, with coverage sponsored by Laharts.
Strong Line-Up for Kilkenny
Lisdowney’s Aidan Tallis has been handed the starting spot between the posts, providing a solid foundation for the defense. The full-back line comprises stalwarts Mikey Butler, Huw Lawlor, and Shane Murphy, bringing experience and grit to the rear guard.
Mackessy takes his place in the half-back line alongside Mikey Carey and David Blanchfield, who will be looking to control the Clare attack and provide a launchpad for Kilkenny’s offense.
In midfield, Peter McDonald will captain the side, partnering with Jordon Molloy in what promises to be a dynamic pairing at the heart of the team.
The forward line sees Paddy Deegan returning to an attacking role, teaming up with Mossy Keoghan and Adrian Mullen in the half-forward positions.
The full-forward line is headlined by Eoin Cody at the edge of the square, with Billy Ryan and Billy Drennan offering pace and precision on either side.
