The Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Joe Malone, marked the start of Ireland’s six-month EU Presidency with a flag-raising ceremony outside County Hall today.
The Cathaoirleach was joined by the Leas-Cathaoirleach Deirdre Cullen, Deputy Mayor John Coonan and Castlecomer MD Chairman Pat Fitzpatrick, the councillors raised the tricolour, EU flag and Kilkenny flag before the National Anthem was played.
Speaking as Ireland begins its six-month EU Presidency, Cllr. Malone said our membership has transformed the country since 1973 through investment, job creation and tourism.
He also believes the presidency will strengthen Ireland’s international relationships, attract further economic opportunities and put the country in the global spotlight over the coming months.
