Kilkenny woman says no information forthcoming on grandmother in local mother and baby home

A Kilkenny woman says she just wants to know who her grandmother really was.

Katherine says she’s been trying for 30 years now to find out information about her late grandmother, Mary Power, who was a resident of a mother and baby home in Thomastown.

Katherine’s own mother was born in one of the homes in Waterford before herself and Mary were moved to Thomastown.

Her grandmother died in the home in her old age but Katherine says they never managed to find out any information about her family.

She says that her file was never handed over despite a Freedom of Information request being granted.
