Leighlinbridge took top prize at the annual Barrow Awards in Carlow last night.
Bagenalstown won the first ever Biodiversity award handed out at the ceremony in the Seven Oaks.
The awards scheme is supported by the councils in Carlow, Kilkenny, Kildare, Laois and Wexford with Waterways Ireland also on board.
St Mullins won best in county for Carlow with Goresbridge taking the Kilkenny title.
But the village of Leighlinbridge was the big winner taking the overall prize for the first time since 2003 – Chairman of the Improvement Group there John Meaney told KCLR news they weren’t expecting it at all.
