For the 58th time in their history, St. Kieran’s College are Leinster senior hurling champions.
The city school defeated cross-town rivals CBS Kilkenny in a thrilling encounter on Wednesday afternoon, needing penalties to conclude matters at UPMC Nowlan Park.
With normal time ending 1-18 apiece thanks to a late CBS goal in injury time, a similar story would play out in the second half with both sides looking to empty the tank in the dying moments of extra time, tying the game up at 2-22 to 1-25.
Early penalty misses from CBS, coupled with steady hands from St. Kieran’s saw the ‘College take the shootout 3-0 to claim a 58th title.
Both sides can now look forward to the All-Ireland series.
