Local AirBnB users may face tax bills dating back to mid-2014

If you’ve been letting out your home through AirBNB you could be facing retrospective tax bills dating back to the middle of last year.

The online booking company’s website shows there are 246 rentals in Kilkenny and 111 in Carlow.

AirBnB will hold a meeting with its Irish hosts today, to address concerns over data it’s already handed over to the Revenue Commissioners.

Short term rentals are not dealt with in the same way as the long term rent a room scheme.

Fiona O’Shea, former principal officer with Revenue, says tax liabilities will depend on how often people rent out their homes.
